About this project:
Detroit residents are 160% more likely to die from cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to the national average. Residents of neighborhoods with high concentrations of poverty are particularly at risk for CVD, and may have fewer opportunities to be physically active, an important risk factor for CVD. Walking in groups increases safety and provides social support for physical activity. Walk Your Heart to Health (WYHH) walking groups are an evidence-based intervention that reduce CV risk. This cube brings together a team with entrepreneurial, public health and public policy expertise to turn WYHH into a sustainable Detroit-based effort to ensure that walking groups remain available to residents of low to moderate income communities with high cardiovascular risk and who may encounter challenges to maintaining physically active lifestyles.
