Short bio: 

Dr. Connell is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education in the School of Public Health. Her research and teaching focuses on the impact of the psychological and social context of health behavior and illness self-management within a lifespan developmental perspective.

Research summary: 

Dr. Connell's research interests include dementia family caregiving, knowledge and attitudes about dementia and dementia diagnosis, psychosocial context of chronic illness and multimorbidity among older adults, role of physical activity in chronic illness self-management and mental and physical health outcomes, the role of pets in the support networks of older adults, and the impact of older adults' life transitions (e.g., driving reduction and cessation) on family communication and caregiving.
