
Brent B. Ward, DDS, MD is an Associate Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry in the School of Dentistry and Section Head within the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Dr. Ward received his Bachelor degree from Brigham Young University, Provo, and dental degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He received his medical degree and completed postgraduate training including residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan joining the faculty in 2003.
Research Summary
Dr. Ward’s research endeavors encompass the spectrum of basic to clinical research. He maintains a funded laboratory with research which has included targeted therapies for cancer, physiologic triggered release of treatment for pain, and optimization of free tissue transfer success. In addition, he maintains a focus in clinical research ranging from collaborative translational projects to clinical trials in cancer and reconstruction related investigations. He is the principal investigator for a national oral cancer database.
