Unintentional injury from motor vehicle crash is a growing problem and continues to be a major source of morbidity and mortality for children and adults. Several questions are still unanswered at the injury prevention and treatment levels, including questions around prevention of alcohol impaired driving, better understanding of how occupant characteristics affect injury mechanics - and how varied methods of restraints and vehicle designs can work to prevent injury and a better understanding of how limited trauma system resources can be better organized to respond to motor vehicle crashes.
