His work has aimed at understanding human-environment interactions through a focus on land-use and land-cover changes, through modeling these changes, and through spatial analysis and remote sensing methods for characterizing landscape patterns. Recent work has used spatial simulation, including agent-based models, to understand and forecast landscape changes.
