Diplom degree in Physics from the University of Saarbrücken (1996). Research assistant in the Department of Ultrasound at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering, St. Ingbert, Germany. Work in industrial as well as biomedical ultrasound, mostly related to microbubble detection and characterization.
Doctoral work in the Applied Physics Program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (graduated 2002). Research on the interaction of microbubbles and -droplets with ultrasound, therapeutic, and diagnostic ultrasound as well as acoustic material properties and acoustic sensors.
Post-doctoral training included Doppler and 3D ultrasound signal processing and associated pre-clinical research.
Since 2003 Dr. Kripfgans is a faculty member in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan, working on 2D CMUT ultrasound arrays, 3D B-mode imaging and 3D Color Doppler, and bubble generation and drug delivery via acoustic droplet vaporization.
Medical and physical aspects of medical ultrasound (diagnostics and therapeutics) including: cancer treatment by occlusion and drug delivery, Doppler based flow imaging, elasticity imaging, acoustic transducers and sound fields (time-reversal methods and piezo-electric and cMUT based array structures).
