My group conducts applied research boradly in the area of computational synthesis and opmimization of mechanical and industrial systems. Recent topics include solar-powered water dissalination, solar/wind integration to manufaturing plants, and lightweight multi-materials structures for clean vehicles. We also actively work on optimization and image processiong problems in medical applications, including neede insersion simulation (past MCubed project), statistical potetial energy modeling for protein folding inspired by mechanicsm theory, deformabel image registration of CT images inspired by mechanics theory, and machine vision for chemical diagram regocnition.
