Mats received his Ph.D. from Stockholm University (1990), and completed his Postdoc at Stanford University (1994).
We have developed Bru-Seq and BruChase-Seq to assess synthesis and stability of RNA, elongation rates of transcription and splicing kinetics of all introns genome-wide. In addition we have developed BruUV-seq which enables us to define transcription start sites as well as detect and map transcription occurring at putative enhancer elements. We are now applying these techniques to study cells at homeostasis or after altering homeostasis by stress, activation of signaling pathways, knockdown of specific oncogenes or epigenetic regulators, chemotherapeutic drugs and inflammation. We are also defining the transcriptome and RNA stabilome in cancer cells and during the aging process. We have adapted Bru-Seq to assess the transcriptome in fresh whole blood and are planning to use this new technology for personalized medicine applications.
