Research Interests: During her residency, she studied the effects of a text messaging intervention on pregnant women’s preventive health beliefs and behaviors. As a Robert Wood Johnson Foudnation Clinical Scholar at the University of Michigan, she explored novel, multimedia interventions to allow bidirectional communication between clinicians and obstetric patients and motivate health promoting behavior. She has also investigated the decision-making and implementation around health policy affecting obstetric and postpartum populations. As a fellow, she acquired expertise in complex survey design, administration and analysis, behavioral randomized controlled trials, and mixed-methods women's health policy analysis. Currently, Dr. Moniz is building a research agenda examining novel ways to use social media, text messaging and video modalities to define patient preferences and values and to improve patient acceptance of evidence-based health behaviors.
